ARe there actually any native English or American English speaking people on this forum? If not, I suggest we switch back to Dutch because spelling and grammar are truly, truly apalling.

Okay, here goes. Point one and two are about everyone, part three is about everyone and partially defending myself, point four is all out defending myself.
1) No, there are only dutch people on this forum 2) No, we aren't allowed to by proboards. I've read the complete rules for having a forum, and there weren't any besides the point that all had to be in english, because of moderating possibilities of the people who check for porn, drugtrade, satanic rituals and other stuff. That's why we're speaking english, not because I like english better or anything. 3) At least 20% of this forum is dyslectic, me being partially that 20%. So that's also a reason spelling might be off. 4) I'm trying to run a forum for 17 players, and I actually run that. Unless someone is waiting for other players or has the other DM (in Moddens shop or in Unt) I can, in 90% of all cases, garantee a post within 24 hours. This means I post at times like now (4:40 am), in which I might not be fully awake. If that degrades my spelling, but I'm sorry. I like fluent play for my players above fluent english.

I don't think point 4 is only a reason for benal. I can't speak for everyone, but I check at every random moment I'm online, this also includes a quick glance between classes and evenings/nights I come home late. It makes you care less about spelling

I'm a member on a Dutch fantasy forum. Some people there sometimes make the biggest spelling mistakes. And I agree with Ben. It's about the roleplay. Then I can read through spelling mistakes.

Indeed , Hhat was it about, spelling. My grammar sucks big time in any language. (yes I do speak and write english better than any other including dutch.) So please keep it all english, not because proboards wants to but it's better anyways (who said anything about this smiley and rotten pickles, he's true you are going to look like that, mostly green afterwards

Yesterday I made a background for a new character (my second, since Panax on Dimoan was my first:)), and the first thing the DM asked me was 'Why did you write it in english!?', and I was like 'Uhm... I don't know... it just... happened'

I prefer english above dutch when it comes to reading. Speaking I prefer none, I just don't bother. Switching between is done easily. dunno how come

I think we should just stick to the English, even if it wasn't forbidden by proboards to speak any other language. I think D&D works better with English, most of the times though.

I can't even roleplay if I keep tripping over someone else's mistakes. It brings you back down from the story layer to the language layer.

I'm very sorry for you mirri . I feel guilty for all this, but I'm already doing the best I can to control my spelling and maintain the beautiful purity of the english language. My spelling won't improve if I switch to dutch. I can't do better then this, and I hope the others are doing their best too, but I'm already DMing, so I can't also walk by every post and get the spelling mistakes out. I have time nor the linguistic mind for that.
